Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte
This iced strawberry matcha latte is a blend of strawberries and a splash of lime, all without losing the matcha flavor. Ideal for hot summer mornings.

This summer, I have leaned into the matcha trend. After trying my first homemade iced matcha, I fully embraced this viral drink. My favorite thing about my recipe is the balance of flavors that I couldn’t find in other variations. Typically, the drink is too strawberry-forward (still delicious, but something was missing). However, this drink is made with a strawberry puree infused with fresh lime, topped with earthy matcha, creating a refreshing blend of strawberry matcha goodness.
If iced matcha is your favorite drink at Starbucks, give this recipe a try! It’s easy and ready to serve in 5 minutes!
Never heard of matcha? You’re not alone! Recently, I discovered that matcha is green tea leaves that have been crushed into a fine powder. Matcha contains a little more caffeine than a cup of coffee. According to Real Simple, this amounts to an average of 30 to 50 milligrams of caffeine.
Of course, your caffeine intake will depend on the amount of matcha powder you add to your latte. It’s no surprise that an iced strawberry matcha latte is a nice alternative for those who aren’t ritual coffee drinkers. This is a gentler energy boost than your morning coffee. There’s nothing worse than getting caffeine jitters.
As it turns out, the composition of matcha includes bioactive compounds that happen to be beneficial to your health. These benefits include positive effects fighting against bacteria, allergies, and inflammation, based on reporting by Melissa Hogenboom, presenter at the BBC.
In my experience, the only place I could get matcha was at a coffee shop. But… luckily, I found Matcha Latte Mix at Trader Joe’s this month. I have a strong suspicion that this product is seasonal, so enjoy it while you can!
Ingredients

- Frozen Strawberries: Before blending the ingredients for the puree, I measure the strawberries and let them thaw inside a Ziplock bag. Bag = less mess! You can use fresh if that’s what you have on hand.
- Matcha: Use the matcha of your choice. Matcha varies in quality and taste. Plus, you may notice differences in color or sweetness.
- Milk: For this recipe, I used lactose-free milk. You can make this a vegan matcha latte by substituting the milk with dairy-free milk. My favorite milk alternative for lattes is the Califia Farms Oat Milk. Nut milk tends to have a strong aftertaste; luckily, this oat milk doesn’t have that problem.
- Maple Syrup: Serves as a sweetener that balances the tartness from the lime. More sweetener can be added as needed.
Recipe Tip
1. For convenience, the strawberry puree can be made ahead of time. When making ahead, store in a mason jar or container. Refrigerate up to 3 days.
2. If you’re using a different brand of matcha, I recommend preparing the matcha in a bowl. Add some hot water to the bowl and whisk. Pour the remaining water, and continue to whisk with a bamboo whisk until the mixture is smooth. This process removes clumps.
